SLJ Practice

I read a story from Maui about when he pulled up the giant fish (Te Wai Pounamu)

A few interesting facts I learnt about Maui are

#1 He punched himself in the nose.

#2 That he pulled up a fish way bigger than himself.

#3 That Maui has a lot more stories


A few other stories that I have heard about Maui are how he pulled up the sun.

SLJ Prize

This Holidays I will be doing the SLJ (Summer Learning Journey) The SLJ's theme this year is        "The World Around Us" The SLJ is a fun blogging activity that you can do over the Christmas holidays. If kids are very good at reading before the Christmas holidays when kids aren't doing anything it shows that over the Christmas holidays they go way way down and it takes ages to learn all of that again. If I won any prize in the SLJ I would love the ps4 need for speed game from EB games

Word Search

This week for Phonics we are doing a word search. We have to find words with -ation -cation -ition. We do not have a list of words to find so its a lot harder than a normal word search. This is mine!

Writing Kenning Poems

In Writing with Mrs Mcg We learnt about Kenning poems. They are an old Nordic style poem. They have 8 lines and always has a noun and a word ending in er.

We did it by brainstorming with a buddy and we made a spider kenning poem.
The hardest part was coming up with the nouns but the words with er were easy.

This week for health we have been learning about personal hygiene.
We made this slide to help 4-6 year olds how to brush their teeth.
The easiest part was making the toothbrush character and the hardest part was making the slide because it took a while. If you like it please comment. Has your school ever done something like this?

My prior knowledge about a narrative is that it's fake story that people have made up. For example Harry potter, Fairy tales and (some) movies.

A quality blog comment should have Positive, Helpful And Thoughtful

The  part I found easy was teaching them how to make a quality blog comment

*The Hangi Pit Was Dug Overnight.
*At 6am The Irons were Burnt In The Pit.
*Irons Were Burnt For 3 Hours
*Food Was Prepared In The Hall
*Wood Got Burnt In The Hangi Pit
*Food Got Put In The Hangi Pit At 10am
*Ate The Food At 12:30pm/lunch time
*Had A Little Playtime
*Went To The Hall for a quior performance/kapahaka
*Went Home. (very full)

This Term We Have Been Learning About Matariki. My Class Started Off By Learning About The Food In A Hangi. So The School Had A Hangi. Everybody Thanked Mrs Harris For Organising the hangi.

About the author slides

In Literacy We are learning to FOCUS on our learning. With the help of our FOCUS charts I have been getting most of my work finished. Once we have read a couple of  books we write a book report.
And an about the author I have done 2 book reports and  1 about the author the other  about the author
I could not find anything. What I found challenging was getting all of the information about the authors.
I found interesting was how some of the inventors in EUREKA! thought up the inventions.

This week for literacy we are learning about Anzac Day. We read a book called The Dawn Parade. I am very grateful for the soldiers who fought in WW1 to let us do what we do today.

Bunyip In The Billabong

I believe that I should stay in your billabong. I could do some amazing things to help ...

I could be a tourist attraction and make you money by jumping out of the water and scaring the tourists
                                 

I could defend your village when aliens attack by jumping out when they land and scaring  them.

I am the only bunyip left in the world and the billabong is my natural habitat

These are the reason that you can't make me leave I only know about this billabong and it has everything that I need to survive.

Today for litercy we read  Bunyip in the billabong. After we read it we did some persuasive writing.

Sustainability

Today we learnt more about sustainability and the pressures on the earth.
We blew up a balloon to represent the earth.
If we had a Sustainable action we let air out.
If we had a non-Sustainable action we put air in to show the pressure on the earth.
My balloon got smaller. It changed because I turn the tap off when I do my teeth.
One small thing I can do to help sustain our earth is turn the TV off at the wall.

Scratch lesson

Today in coding we learnt how to pick a sprite and about the x and y axis. I found it challenging when we had to work out which was negative and which one was positive

Sustainablity

This morning I learnt about what it means to be sustainable. A small change I can make to be more sustainable is to stop using plastic bags and recycle. What do you think?

Vaporizing Machine

This week for Literacy we have been learning about Vaporizing Machines. We had to make a Vaporizing Machine with google drawings. First we read a book about black holes then we made the Vaporizing machine. I found making the drawing very challenging because I had to figure out what shapes to use. I found it easy making the drawing.

The door in the wall

This week for Writing we have been writing about a tiny door.
We looked at a picture and thought Critically about it.
Then we put our ideas on a piece of paper.
After that we writ our story.

Being Responsible With Chromebooks

In Cybersmart I have been learning about being responsible with chromebooks. First we put our Prior Knowledge on a padlet.Then we buddied up and created a (poster or infographic) about being responsible with chromebooks. I found it hard when we had to put the sentences in the text boxes. I found it easy putting the pictures on the drawing.
