Hurumanu 4 Term 2 2020
Today in Hurumanu 4 (Poetic Arts) we did an artboard. We put all of our art and writing on some paper with our names on it. We're doing it so we can display our art on Thursday to show the rest of the students. My most favourite part of my artboard is My Collage. It looks really good with the outlines so you can see it as well. The hardest part was probably the Siapo because I'm not very good at drawing Maori Symbols. My Favourite style of poetry is the Diamante poem because it's really fun to write and it's in the shape of a diamond too. This artboard was really fun to make and do all of the art and writing as well.

Volume
Today in "Hurumanu 5" Maths (Maths and Pe) we finished off a table about volume. We had to calculate the volume of the Gym, Classroom, Ballbin 1 & 2, and the Cupboards. The way you calculate the volume is you calculate the length, width, and height. So if the height of a cupboard was 1 meter, the width was 2 meters and the height was 3 meters. The equation is 2x2x3 so the answer is 12. It took a while because we didn't have enough time to finish all the measurements so we had to ask other people who measured the stuff we didn't measure. Here are my measurements, Feel free to comment! (I accidentally put"Area" instead of Volume" Don't worry about that!)

The Taniwha of Rakaia Gorge
(Late Blog Post) A Few weeks ago we did some drawing about a book called "The Taniwha Of Rakaia Gorge" We had to do different Maori symbols on a piece of paper to tell the story. I'm not sure what any of the symbols mean but I just did the symbols I know. We also made a Diamante poem. A Diamante Poem is a poem with seven lines in the shape of a diamond. The first line is the subject you are doing your poem about, the second line is two describing words about the subject, the third line is three Verbs or Do-ing words but the words have to have "Ing" at the end, the fourth line is a two words about the subject and then two words about the opposite. then it basically reverses, three doing words, two describing words, etc. here is my diamante poem. Feel free to comment!

Via Survey
Today in "Wanaga" we did a VIA survey to see what our Strengths are. There are a lot of questions, probably about 40. I did it pretty fast, probably too fast. Some of the questions are repetitive but they are worded in different ways to trick us. I agree with all of my main strengths but the funny thing is "Humor" is last for me. Here are my main strengths! feel free to comment.

The Benny Iceberg
Today in "Hurumanu 4" (Speaking My Truth) we had to read a book called "Benny" (I did a blog post on it earlier) and then we had to do the "Iceberg Illusion" which is an iceberg but you can only see the top. The top is usually the good part and underneath the water is the stuff you need to go through to get the good part. eg, Top=Success!, Below the water=Determination, failure, persistence, etc. We did an "Iceberg" about the boy's mother. On the top, she is annoyed, shocked, mad, angry, etc. and on the bottom is all the feelings she felt before and everything else. This information I got from reading the story.

Tapa Cloth Charcoal-ing
Today in "Hurumanu 4 Poetic Arts" we finally finished our tapa cloth. We went over the faded lines with Charcoal sticks. I like the fact that it makes it that little bit bolder but next time I would choose black paper instead of brown. I know this sounds weird but the Charcoal actually stands out more on the black paper. The Charcoal doesn't really stand out as much as I would hope on the brown, but you can kind of see it. The colour paper I chose is; brown paper with a lighter brown crayon to draw the designs.

Tapa Cloth Dyeing
Today in "Hurumanu 4" we dyed our tapa cloth. (I did a blog post on it earlier) The Brown paper used brown dye. The black paper used white dye. Once our tapa clothes have finished drying we will re-do the lines using charcoal.

Benny
Today in "Hurumanut 4" we had to read a book of our choice and answer some questions about it. The book I chose is called "Benny" it's about 2 friends one is short and skinny and Benny is tall and muscular. They always bomb off of the jetty and try and flip the kayaks going underneath or near the jetty. Benny doesn't want to do the bombing this time but the other kid is too small. They have an argument and Benny pushed the other kid off the jetty and the Kid in the Kayak gets flipped under and his mother has a spaz at Benny. They hear police sirens and run to the hills. The other kid walks up to Benny and hugs him, Benny is crying. He says "I'm not stupid" and runs away. Once we had finished reading we had to answer some questions. Here are the questions, Feel Free To Comment!
#1 What are some of the differences between Benny and His Friend?
Benny Is Tall and Muscular with ginger hair. But his friend is short and skinny with black hair.
#2 How does Benny's Friend feel about Benny's new house?
He thinks is cool with all of the techy stuff like the security cameras and the electric gate.
#3 How did the boy's mother feel about the incident? Do you think her reactions are Justified? Why/WhyNot. I think she overreacted a little bit with all of the swearing but everything else she did right. She probably felt a little bit shocked and scared for her boy's life.
#4 What is the author's purpose of writing this text? How do you know?
To Be Honest I'm not quite sure why the author wrote this text. Maybe "Don't Tip Kayaks Over"?
#5 What themes are explored in this text?
Mountains, Jetty, Beach, House.

Hurumanu 4 Poetic Arts
Today in "Hurumanu 4" (Poetic Arts) We had to do designs for some Tapa Cloth. We read a story about The Creation Of Tuna. Then we Brainstormed some design ideas for our Tapa Cloth. The Ideas that I brainstormed are Sun, Hinake, Vines, Water, Tuna and Marae. Once we finished both our Draft and out finished copy we had to create a Haiku about our Tapa Cloth. Here are both my copies and my Haiku. They aren't very good photos but here they are. Feel Free To Comment!
