PE Hurumanu

Today in "Hurumanu 5" (PE Hurumanu) we did a 30m sprint and An Agility test. We had to test our pulse before each of the activities and after to see what our pulse was. Before my 30m sprint, my pulse was 94BPM (Beats Per Minute), and after it was 135. Before my Agility Test, my pulse was 89, and after it was 139. The time I took for me to do the 30m Sprint was 18.57. And the time it took me to do the Agility Test was 19.24. Feel Free To Comment/Ask Questions

The Bullet

Today in "Hurumanut 4" we had to read a book of our choice and answer some questions about it. The book I chose is called "The Bullet". It's about a boy who is bullied at his new school The boy finds the bullet because a man who comes up to him in his car and offers him a smoke and the bullet falls out of the car. The boy grabs the bullet and takes it to school to show everyone how cool he is. Once we had read the book we had to answer some questions on a blog post. The questions are...  

#1 Do you think Rodney cares who or what the bullet was meant for? Why do you think that?

I don't think Rodney cared about who the bullet was for he just wanted everyone to think he is cool.

#2What clues can you find in the text that will help you to understand why the boy might be with the police now?

Because the car smelled bitter. Maybe drugs? In possession of a prohibited substance? And he asked Rodney if he wanted a smoke.

Why doesn’t he look cool anymore? What has changed?

He doesn't look cool anymore because of hid sunglasses and he looks nervous because he got caught by the cops.

What is Charmaine’s opinion of the boy? What does she mean by “guys like him”? Do you agree with her? Why or why not?

"Guys like him," I think she means like boy racers or the people who blast their music in their cars because "They're Cool"

What do you think Rodney has learned from the events in the story?

I think that he has learned to not take stuff that is his and hide it from other people. He should've handed it into the police.

What do you think the author’s theme or message was? What is your response to this?

I think the "Theme or Message" is to not take stuff that isn't yours and instead of hiding something dangerous turn it into the police or tell an adult you trust.

Football/Soccer Haiku Poem

Today in "Hurumanu 4" (Poetic arts) we had to create a Haiku poem about anything we wanted. Of course... I chose Football/Soccer. It's my favourite sport! If I could I would play it every day (Like I Do At School). A Haiku is a poem that uses syllables and doesn't rhyme, it has 3 lines and the 1st and 3rd line have 5 syllables and the 2nd line has 7. Syllables are like beats so in my name (Dylan) there are 2 beats or Syllables (Dy-lan). So here is my Football/Soccer Haiku.

The Creation Of Tuna

Today in "Hurumanu 4" (Poetic Arts) We read a story called "The Creation Of Tuna" (Tuna/Eel). And once we had finished reading the book we had a bunch of questions we had to answer. Here are the questions. Feel free to comment!

#1 What problem did Tuna o Runga I Te Raki have?
In Heaven that Tuna o Runga I Te Raki was living in before he came down to Earth, He lived in a very dry area because "Heaven" is close to the sun. So he had no water and had to come down to Earth
#2 Vocabulary. What does tipua mean?. What is a hinaki?
In Maori Mythology, a "Tipua" is a demon. They can come in all shapes and sizes like Trees, rocks, fish, etc. A Hinaki is a trap weaved out of stems of mangemange and is filled with bait used to catch eels(Tuna).
#3 What type of animal is "Tuna"? Tuna is an "Eel"
#4 Compare the art from the book and the art from the video, what is the difference?
The art from the book has colour and the art from the video is a black background with white lines.
#5 Which art style do you prefer, the art from the book or the art from the video?
I like the art from the video because it is more effective and you can see the lines. The art in the book is a little bit smudgy and you can't really see the shapes very well. Both the art is really cool though.

Pasta Restaurant

Today in "Hurumanu" we had to create a "Mood Board" and a "Restaurant Brand Design" about the interior and exterior of our chosen type of Restaurant, and about what our restaurant would look like  I chose an Italian Pasta Restaurant. We had to choose a name, choose what food would be on our menu, choose our colours, and some fonts for our logo, and finally create some logos. It is a very fun activity. The Piping Puppet

The last week in "Wanaga" we have been working on a comic. We had to make up our own superhero and their power. My superhero's name is The Piping Puppet, and his power is Manipulation. It took a while because of planning and all that. The Piping Puppet's City is called "Globe City" and his enemy is The Pied Piper. The Piping Puppet uses a Kazoo to Manipulate his enemies and villains. Next time I would probably put more onomatopoeia and a little bit more colour. 6 Line/Word Poem

Today for "HR" we had to write down a poem on a postcard that we are going to send to our buddy class at St Peters school in Cambridge. Your poem could be made up or something that happened. There are 6 lines that we put 6 words on. The 1st line was Something you saw, the 2nd line was something you remember, the 3rd line was a person who was with you, the 4th line was an imaginary thing that didn't happen, the 5th line was the reason for your journey and the last line was your own 6-word conclusion. Word Art

Today in "Wananga" (Form Time) We had 90 seconds to write down as many feelings as we can that we felt during the lockdown. I wrote 18 feelings and the closest other person was at 16. Once we wrote down our feelings we had to go on to the word art website and create a word art using the feelings we wrote down. I felt excited about going back to school after the recent lockdown event because I could see all my Friends and Teachers and do work at school.

I felt anxious when we returned back to school after the recent lockdown event because I was paranoid about people touching me.

I felt scared during the recent lockdown event when we had to return to school because I felt strange and paranoid because I had to try and keep 1 metre away from everybody else. I can't wait until we go back to normal!

Hand washing in Level 2

Today we finally get to come back to school. So... We had to do some school work Yay! We had to create a hand washing poster to put around the school. My buddy Reuben and I created this poster. We had to make a lot of changes because we didn't have any colour on the poster. So we improvised and instead of changing the colour of the writing, we instead put some word art so we could colour it in. Here is our poster. Feel free to comment!

My Logo

Today in "Working From Home" I created a logo. It was for my Technology Hurumanu. I decided to do it about a Gaming Company that creates games. It is called "Victory Road Games". Victory Road Games creates Racing  Games. Hence the name. It was tricky because I had no ideas and then I found a site that gave me ideas for logos. Here is my logo, feel free to comment.

Making Ends Meet

For the past week, I have been working on a slideshow for Maths called "Working From Home". It is about money and paying for food without spending a lot. It took me a while because I had to do a meal plan for 1 week and there are seven days in a week with three meals a day which is 7x3=21. So I had to do a meal plan for 21 days and then write out the recipe and method of cooking it. It wasn't SUPER hard but it was pretty time-consuming. Here is my slideshow, feel free to comment!

My Hagglund

Today in "Working From Home" I read a story about Antarctica. Once you had finished reading the story you had to create a "Thinglink" about the Main Character. My story didn't have the main character so I created a "Thinglink" about a "Hāgglund". A Hāgglund is a Swedish Vehicle built in 1974 used for military purposes. But once scientists started coming to Antarctica, they used it for traveling long distances. This Hāgglund was very fun to make and research. Here is my Hāgglund. Level 2 and life being semi-normal

Today I watched the update from the Prime Minister. Jacinda Ardern, give details on how life at level 2 will look like.

I am excited about being able to return to school and see all my friends and teachers in person after so long. I can burst my bubble and give my extended family members a huge hug. My Grandparents can come up from Dunedin to see us all.

I will continue to practice safe hygiene and to ensure that I keep safe distances from strangers. 2 metres outside and 1 metre inside. Shops are finally allowed to open, and I can go get the new sneakers that I want and need as I have outgrown my other ones. I can also go an get a hair cut as I desperately need one. Football can hopefully start at the end of the month as I have missed playing each Saturday morning.

Life will certainly be different, even at level 2. We all need to still take care and beat this virus.
