Wellington, a place where you go if you would like to be blown over by the wind. For our quick write today we had to try and find 10 facts about Wellington.
1.Location. Wellington is at the very bottom of the North Island.
2.Population. Wellington has just under 250,000 people. That's a lot of people and I bet you can imagine what it's like in peak hour traffic.
3.Māori name. Wellington's Māori name is Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
4. Celebrities from Wellington. A few famous people from Wellington include Russel Crowe, Kerry Fox, Karl Urban, Emmet Skilton, and a few more.
5.The Beehive. The Beehive is the parliament building in Wellington. That's where you go if you have an issue that you want the prime minister to fix. Or if you work there of course.
6. Fact 1. Wellington is actually the capital of New Zealand. It took over from Russel or Waitangi as some people call it. It became the capital on the 26th of July 1865.7. Fact 2. It's just been named the worlds best city. Because of its affordable house prices, heaps of things to do, and everything is close together.
8. Fact 3. They still deliver Mail by boat. Yes, you heard right. Wellington delivers mail to Picton by boat.
9. Fact 4.Wellington is very windy. Wellington is the Windiest city in New Zealand. It's also the second windiest city in the world following closely behind Chicago in America
10. Fact 5. I've been to Wellington once and it was my first time out of the south island. We went up to Mount Victoria and I couldn't stand straight because it was way too windy.
